Shelley Beach and Bob's Bay
30 minutes to Bob's Bay
This is an easy walk past the "Echo" on the eastern shore of the harbour to Shelley Beach and on to Bobメs Bay from the Victoria Domain track which is well sign posted and takes about ten minutes. It is advisable to wear suitable footwear as the track ends to be very slippery and muddy, particularly during the winter months or after heavy rain. All areas are suitable for swimming and barbecues etc.

Victoria Domain to the Snout Allow
3 hours 30 minutes from Lookout carpark to
Snout and back. Proceed along Waikawa Road to Sussex Street. Turn right from Waikawa Bay direction, continue on to the top of Victoria Domain, the road is tar-sealed. From the top of the Domain the track takes you right to the Snout about 5 kms or you can go part of the way, or down to the beach at Bob's Bay. With a superb view of Queen Charlotte Sound and movement of Ferries and other craft to and from Picton harbour.

Esson's Valley Reservoir. Allow 40 minutes
There are two tracks to the Upper and Lower Dams each about 40 minutes. A pleasant three kilometre walk through native bush. The reservoirs contain the emergency water supply for Picton. The track starts off at Garden Terrace at the end of Devon Street near Alexanderメs Motor Camp. By night glow worms may be seen at various point approximately halfway along the walk. Visitors are reminded that no firearms are allowed in the valley

Lookout point 10 minutes
This vantage point above the main wharf may be reached by car along Queen Charlotte Drive or on foot Beatty's Track which starts at the base of the main wharf, near the cement silos. There are excellent views of the harbour and the Sounds.

Karaka Point
Situated some eight kilometres by road east of Picton on the far side of Waikawa Bay. A short winding track takes you along the point to a grassed look out. Midway along the track you will see the ramparts and pits of what was a sizeable Maori settlement. It is not known what happened to the occupants but it is thought that they were eventually driven out by Te Rauparaha. Two access tracks leads down to the beach and at low tide it is possible to walk around the point.

Tirohanga Walkway Allow 40 minutes
This walks starts at Newgate Street near the Blue Anchor Motor Camp and takes 45 minutes each way. It has a lovely view of Picton and the Sounds and is well worth the effort. Return the same unless you wish to go to Essons Valley behind the look-out, take care, as this is steep and slippery when wet.
